Pierce withdraws from Generali Ladies Open

May Pierce has been forced to withdraw from next week’s Generali Ladies Linz tournament. Thankfully her ranking for the WTA Championship is pretty secure, but the question is will she be able to play by then?

From Yahoo News:

VIENNA, Austria - U.S. Open runner-up Mary Pierce pulled out of the Generali Ladies tournament because of an injury on Thursday. Mary is suffering from a groin injury and will not be able to play,"
tournament organizer Peter Michael Reichel told The Associated Press.

Pierce, 30, who has won 18 WTA career titles, "had an examination in
Paris, which confirmed a repetition of a thigh injury that had already
troubled her all summer," Reichel said.

The French star reached the French Open and U.S. Open finals and would have been one of the top players at the tournament in Linz.

"It’s a pity, but even more so for her, as she really wanted to play here," Reichel said.
