Clijsters injury not as bad as feared

Kim Clijsters has narrowly avoided a dehabilitating injury just prior to the start of the Australian Open. The world No.2 was just beginning to warmup for her quarterfinal match against Francesca Schiavone at this week’s Medibank International when she injured her left hip. With the Australian Open suffering from withdrawals on the men’s side of the tournament, news that Clijsters still may be able to play was a definite encouragement.

From TSN.ca:

“I had an MRI scan and it’s shown I have an inflammation of the hip joint and tendon,” Clijsters said in a statement. “The good news is that there is no tear of the muscle.

“In the next couple of days I’m going to receive more treatment and do some stabilization exercises. At that point I’ll have a better idea of my condition.”

UPDATE: Clijsters tears anterior ligament and will be off the tour for two months. Read the rest of this post by clicking here.
