Hingis and Clijsters advance at the Australian Open

Martina Hingis won her first Grand Slam match in four years by successfully defeating No.30 seed Vera Zvonareva 6-1, 6-2. Hingis remains on track for a possible third round match against world No.5 Mary Pierce.
Amelie Mauresmo overcame an early round challenge against China’s Tiantian Sun in the first round. Sun took the first set 6-4. but Mauresmo rallied to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-2
Kim Clijsters, playing with an injured leg, easily advanced when she defeated Yoon Jeong Cho 6-3, 6-0. Clijsters was not able to move as well as normal and had to limit her practice session to only seven minutes. She next faces Meng Yuan of China.
