Dementieva defeats Hingis for Toray Pan Pacific Title

World No.9 Elena Dementieva defeated wildcard and former No. 1 Martina Hingis 6-2, 6-0 in the 2006 Toray Pan Pacific Open tennis final yesterday in Tokyo, Japan.
Dementieva, the finalist at Roland Garros and the U.S. Open in 2004, delivered a crushing blow to Hingis in a straight sets victory. Hingis showed none of the brilliance that led her to defeat world No.4 Maria Sharapova in the semifinal, as she was only able to take two games in the first set. Dementieva then completed her first career 6-0 second set victory.
