Henin-Hardenne cruises with a double-bagel at the Pacific Life Open

Justine Henin-Hardenne cruised into the fourth round today at the Pacific Life Open tennis tournament in Indian Wells, California. The No. 1 seed delivered a blistering 6-0, 6-0 defeat to Aiko Nakamura of Japan and will face Ai Sugiyama in the round of 16.

Apart from Henin-Hardenne’s triumph, today was a rough day for the rest of the seeded women at Indian Wells. No. 6 seed Flavia Pennetta was forced to retire with a sprained ankle after the first game of her match against Finland’s Emma Laine. Tatiana Golovin, the twelfth seed, was knocked out 1-6, 7-5, 7-6(6) by No. 17 Gisela Dulko.

Elena Dementieva has not had an easy time so far at Indian Wells as she was forced into another three set match this afternoon. Dementieva lost the first set to No. 28 Sania Mirza, but she recovered to win 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

Russian teenager Maria Kirilenko was defeated today by her fellow countrywoman No. 22 Anna Chakvetadze in straight sets. Chakvetadze easily advanced to the fourth round with a 6-2, 6-3 win.
