Justine Henin-Hardenne’s opening round match was delayed from Saturday to Sunday, but she showed no signs of that affecting her mental or physical game. The number one seed cruised past Tsvetana Pironkova in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
Martina Hingis and Lindsay Davenport set up a fourth round clash after Hingis defeated Austria’s Sybille Bammer 6-0, 6-3. No. 2 seed Davenport beat her fellow countrywoman Laura Granville 6-4, 6-0 earlier in the day.
American Lisa Raymond tried to put up a fight in her first set against Maria Sharapova, but in the end the No. 3 seed advanced to the fourth round with a 6-4, 6-0 win.
