No. 1 seed Justine Henin-Hardenne claimed a spot in the Pacific Life Open semifinals after cruising past Gisela Dulko in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. I had a chance to watch some of the tennis match on ESPN2 and judging from the way the Belgian No. 2 player has been playing this week, she is the clear favorite to win the trophy on Saturday.
Russian Elena Dementieva booked her own berth in the semifinals after winning a tough three set match against Serbian teenager Ana Ivanovic yesterday. Dementieva, the fourth seed, surrender the first set 2-6 to Ivanovic, but triumphed in the next two sets 6-4, 6-2.
Henin-Hardenne’s record against Dementieva is almost perfect; the No. 1 seed leads 7-1 in career matches.
Semifinal match play begins today at 11:00AM PST in Indian Wells, with live coverage on ESPN2.
