Nadia Petrova pulls out of the Italian Open

Internazionali d'Italia - Antonio Costantini

World No. 3 Nadia Petrova has retired from the Internazionali d”Italia tennis tournament in Rome with a right pectoralis strain.

Details are sketchy, but according to the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour’s order of play, Petrova withdrew from the tournament before her opening round match against Slovakia’s Katarina Srebotnik.

She won the title at last week’s Qatar Telecom German Open after defeating in three sets defending champion Justine Henin-Hardenne.

Reuters has broken the story, but they do not have any specifics on the extent of her injury, only that it is not expected to prevent her from playing at Roland Garros.
