(Martina Hingis)
Martina Hingis blew her chances at defeating Venus Williams three weeks ago at the J&S Cup in Warsaw, Poland, but she will get a second opporunity tomorrow afternoon at the Internazionali d’Italia in Rome.
Hingis, who is currently at a comeback high of No. 21 in the world, set up another meeting with Williams by defeating the last Italian tennis player still in the singles draw, Flavia Pennetta, 6-3, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
Venus advanced to the semifinal round after outlasting Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic in three sets 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.
With Hingis and Venus now tied at 10-10 in career meetings, tomorrow’s semifinal match hopefully will bring out the best in both former world number ones.
The Tennis Channel will be airing taped coverage of the semifinals starting at 2:00 PM EST.
