(Martina Hingis)
Former world number one Martina Hingis will play Russia’s Dinara Safina in the final of the Internazionali d’Italia tomorrow in Rome, Italy.
Despite being bageled by Venus Williams in the first set of their semifinal match this afternoon, Martina Hingis stormed back to win the match 0-6, 6-3, 6-3. Tomorrow’s final will be Hingis’ second Sony Ericsson WTA Tour tennis final since her comeback in January.
Sixteenth seed Dinara Safina also came back from behind in her semifinal match against her fellow countrywoman Svetlana Kuznetsova. Kuznetsova, the 2004 U.S. Open champion, started strong against Safina, but allowed her unforced errors to rob her of a chance to reach her third final of the 2006 season. Safina took the match 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 to claim a berth in her first Tier I tournament final.
