Internazionali d'Italia - Antonio Costantini

When Martina Hingis announced that she was returning to the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour in November, it seemed highly unlikely that she would ever regain the form that led her to the top spot in the world for 209 weeks. The chances of her returning to the top 100 seemed unlikely, let alone the thought that she would ever win another title.

Martina Hingis proved all her critics wrong today when she stormed her way to the first title of her comeback at the Internazionali d’Italia with a solid 6-2, 7-5 win over Russia’s Dinara Safina.

Her win should propel her into the top fifteen and with her confidence this high, she is one of the main threats at next week’s French Open.

I am definitely pleased with Martina’s win, which I think validated her return to the tour. :)
