The 2006 Roland Garros (French Open) event begins on a Sunday this year instead of a traditional Monday start. With a field of 128 ladies in the singles draw, Roland Garros is one of four majors - Grand Slams - held each year on the ATP/WTA calendar. The field at this year’s event is very strong with Amelie Mauresmo, Kim Clijsters, Nadia Petrova, defending champion Justine Henin-Hardenne, and Martina Hingis emerging as the frontrunners for the title.
