World number two Kim Clijsters started her pursuit for a second major title with a 6-0, 7-6 (4) win today over France’s Virginie Razzano in the first round. Clijsters needed only 22 minutes to blitz past in the first set 6-0, but struggled closing the match out in the second set.

“I started strong but I made way too many mistakes after that,” said Clijsters, who hammered 17 winners to Razzano’s eight, and committed 32 unforced errors. “This is the most wind I had to play in. It was pretty difficult.”

I am looking forward to watching Clijsters’ progression through the draw at Roland Garros, especially as she could be the player who dashes Martina Hingis’ hopes of completing the career Grand Slam in a potential quarterfinal match.
