A relieved Justine Henin-Hardenne bought herself a twenty-fourth birthday present today at Roland Garros. The 2005 champion advanced to the third round with a tough 6-2, 7-5 win over Anastasiya Yakimova of Belarus.
Henin-Hardenne may have secured her spot in the next round, but like many of the other top seeds, struggled in the early round matchup. Her 1st serve was not nearly as consistent as she hoped, with her service percentage only 56% for the match.
The fifth seeded Belgian also allowed the unforced errors to creep into her game with 43 unforced errors in the two sets.
Yakimova had a chance to serve for the second set at 5-4, but Henin-Hardenne came back to save three set points and win the match 6-2, 7-5.
Justine Henin-Hardenne awaits the winner of the Alize Cornet/Tathiana Garbin match in the third round.
