Maria Sharapova will play DFS Classic in Birmingham

World number four Maria Sharapova has announced that she will be competing at the DFS Classic tennis tournament in Birmingham, England next week.
The tier III event is one of three warm-up tournaments on grass before the start of the Championships at Wimbledon. Maria Sharapova has won the winner’s trophy for the past two years.
Tournament Director Marjory Howie commented: “We are very excited that Maria has chosen to come back to Birmingham to defend her DFS Classic title. It is a fantastic opportunity for fans to see a tennis superstar like Maria in action on their doorstep in Birmingham.
She added: “I know Maria is excited to be defending her title and it will no doubt help her preparation for Wimbledon this year. We have an excellent field of players entered this year and I’m sure the title will be hotly contested.â€

Maria Sharapova will join a talented field of fifty-six singles players, including Daniela Hantuchova, Elena Likhovtseva, and Tatiana Golovin.
