Svetlana Kuznetsova through to Roland Garros Semifinals

Russia’s Svetlana Kuznetsova has earned a spot in her first Roland Garros semifinal after coming back from behind to defeat her fellow countrywoman Dinara Safina 7-6(5), 6-0.
Kuznetsova, the 2004 US Open champion, tied her career meetings with Safina at 3-3 after today’s straight sets win.
Safina raced to a 5-1 lead in the first set, but then her hesitant play and errors allowed Kuznetsova to storm back and win the set 7-6(5). Safina’s struggles continued in the second set and Kuznetsova needed only twenty minutes to close out the match 7-6(5), 6-0.
Svetlana Kuznetsova will play the winner of the Venus Williams/Nicole Vaidisova match in the semifinals.
