Shahar Peer hires Adam Peterson as new tennis coach

Shahar Peer’s life changed this past week at Roland Garros when she made the round of 16 after knocking out world number eight Elena Dementieva in straight sets. Peer, who is currently part of the Israeli Defense Forces, has already won three Sony Ericsson WTA Tour tennis titles, and she is only nineteen years of age.

The Haaretz has a great article on the young Israeli where she talks about what life is now like as a sports star in the tiny nation of Israel. Even Israel’s prime minister Ehud Omert has taken time to congratulate Peer on her excellent run in Paris.

One of the changes that the Peer has undertaken since her successful clay court season came to an end was to seek the aid of a new coach, Adam Peterson. Peterson used to be the coach of former world number one Lindsay Davenport and he will replace Peer’s old coach Oded Ya’akov.

“It wasn’t easy for me to part ways with Oded after six wonderful years,” Peer said. “We are parting on a successful note, but the decision was one that had to be made. I need to continue to improve.”

Martina Hingis defeated Peer in the fourth round of the French Open 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
