June 19 Update: Lindsay Davenport has withdrawn from Wimbledon.
Former world number one Lindsay Davenport may not be playing Wimbledon later on this month, according to Lisa Dillman at the Los Angeles Times.
Lindsay Davenport of Laguna Beach, a Wimbledon finalist last year who has been out with an injured back, is in doubt for that tournament, according to her agent.
“To be honest, it’s up in the air,” said Tony Godsick of IMG.

This is definitely bad news for American tennis fans, as Serena Williams has also withdrawn from the event, leaving her sister Venus as the main American title hopeful. Davenport, who turned thirty yesterday, has been off the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour since the Pacific Life Open in March with a bulging disk in her back. She decided to completely skip the clay court season this year in hopes of being fresh for Wimbledon, the site of her 1999 Grand Slam title.
She has hinted at the possibility of her retirement in the past, and if Davenport is forced to withdraw from Wimbledon, we may start hearing those same statements again.
