Au Revoir to Roland Garros!

Roland Garros

I can hardly believe how fast the last fifteen days have flown by! The 2006 Roland Garros has ended, and it feels like it just started! Justine Henin-Hardenne’s run to the championship title was not much of a surprise, but Nicole Vaidisova and Svetlana Kuznetsova help liven up the action with their impressive runs. When the tournament started, the last person I expected to see in the semifinal was the teenager from the Czech Republic, but it was a pleasant surprise, to say the least. The clay courts of France helped produced some excellent matches over the past two weeks and many players showed signs of greater things to come. France has played host to some remarkable tournaments in the past, and this year’s event was no different.

I would like to take the time to thank all of On the Baseline’s readers for your support as we tried to bring you updated results, commentary, and information on the French Open. Thanks to each of you, we logged over 24,000 page views and used over 1GB of bandwidth in just fifteen days! Our articles were syndicated on not only several other blogs and tennis forums, but also at Topix, Yahoo News, and the United Kingdom’s NewsNow.

As much as I hate to say au revoir to Paris, I am already looking ahead to the upcoming Championships at Wimbledon. The “Road to Roland Garros” series was so popular that I decided to do another edition in anticipation of Wimbledon. Be sure to come back to On the Baseline in the next few days for the start of the new series!

Thanks again for all of your interest and support!

Right now, I’m the only person doing the writing, but we do have a staff photographer (we plan on including live coverage of some of the Grand Slams in the near future), a web technician, and a consultant that advises us on the business end of our site.
