Just when it looked like Alicia Molik was in a position to mount a strong comeback to the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, injury has knocked her out of action once again.
Australia’s fan favorite was scheduled to participate in this week’s DFS Classic in Birmingham, England, but she was withdrew shortly before her first round tennis match against Russian Vera Zvonareva.
A tournament spokesman said Molik had suffered the injury during practice.
“She has right neck soreness,” the official said. “It (the injury) happened during the present tournament. It is a new injury.”

At this point, Molik has not released a statement regarding her participation in the Hastings Direct tournament next week in Eastbourne or the upcoming Championships at Wimbledon. She received a wildcard into the main draw of Wimbledon on Monday.
