Serena Williams receives wildcard into Acura Classic

Serena Williams may plan on playing more competitive tennis in the future, but she will have to ask for wildcards to gain entry into the prestigious Sony Ericsson WTA Tour events.

She will make her official comeback at the Western & Southern Financial Group Women’s Open in Cincinnati, Ohio next month, but this is just a Tier III tournament. With a ranking out of the top 100, she can only get direct entry into the main draw of minor tournaments, unless she gets a wildcard entry, which should not be a problem for the former world number one player.

No tournament director in his right mind would refuse Serena a wildcard, especially as she still draws crowds wherever she plays. After playing in the Cincinnati, she is scheduled to head to California to play in the Tier I Acura Classic in San Diego as a wildcard.
