Justine Henin-Hardenne has injury scare in win over Kim Clijsters

Justine Henin-Hardenne managed to overcome her fellow Belgian Kim Clijsters today at the Hastings Direct International Championships, but she may have injured her knee in the process.

Henin-Hardenne advanced to the final of the Tier II tennis tournament, but needed three sets to finish off her long-time rival. Clijsters lost the first set, but managed to mount a small comeback in the second, before Henin-Hardenne was finally able to close the match out 6-3, 5-7, 6-1.

It was Henin-Hardenne’s second win over Clijsters in less than three weeks, but during the match she slipped and suffer an injury which could potentially threaten her chances at completing a career Grand Slam.

The Australian Open finalist lunged for a ball in the second set, only to fall and skid across the court. She screamed in pain and then paced the back of the court gingerly.

“I was a little bit scared when that happened,” she said. “I over-stretched, I slid a little bit and it was really painful for 30 seconds but not really serious, I think. I didn’t feel anything more in the match.”

Justine Henin-Hardenne will meet Russia’s Anastasia Myskina in the final match on Saturday.
