Justine Henin-Hardenne has sent a message to the rest of the field; she wants the 2006 Championships at Wimbledon title and you had better play your best if you want to stop her.
The world’s No. 3 player shocked China’s Meng Yuan with a blistering 6-0, 6-1 win today on Centre Court at Wimbledon. Henin-Hardenne was scheduled to play her opening round match yesterday, but once she headed onto the main court at SW19, she needed only 56 minutes to secure a berth in the next round.
No other player was hotter heading into Wimbledon than Belgium’s Henin-Hardenne; she reached the final of the Australian Open, won the ladies singles trophy at Roland Garros, and besides these two incredible accomplishments, she has already won three more Sony Ericsson WTA Tour titles in the 2006 season.
She will face the winner of the Aiko Nakamura/Ekaterina Bychkova in the second round.
