Russia’s Anastasia Myskina advanced to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon with a straight sets win over Serbia and Montenegro’s Jelena Jankovic in the fourth round.
Myskina, who won Roland Garros in 2004, knocked out No. 26 seed Jankovic 6-4, 7-6(5) today at SW19.
This is the first time that Myskina has reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam since last year’s Wimbledon, and it is great to see the former No. 2 player regain her form after a depressing 2005 season. She was so disappointed after her poor finish last season, that she has hinted that she may retire at the end of the year if her results do not improve.
Myskina will face either current world No. 1 Amelie Mauresmo or another young Serb, Ana Ivanovic, in the quarterfinal round.
