Amelie Mauresmo reaches semifinal over Myskina

The Championships at Wimbledon

Anastasia Myskina pushed her to three sets, but current world No. 1 Amelie Mauresmo set up a semifinal clash with Maria Sharapova after defeating Myskina in three sets 6-1, 3-6, 6-3

I have not had a chance to research this, but I would love to know the last time that the top four seeds advanced to the semifinals at the Championships at Wimbledon. Much talk has been made about the depth of the women’s tour, but in the end, the top four women in the world, Amelie Mauresmo, Kim Clijsters, Justine Henin-Hardenne, and Maria Sharapova have conquered their way to the semifinal round of Wimbledon.

As a greater example of the skill of these women, each one advanced in straight sets, except for Mauresmo’s struggle today against Myskina, and Sharapova’s battle yesterday against Flavia Pennetta.

Amelie Mauresmo will face Maria Sharapova in the semifinal on Thursday.
