Amelie Mauresmo will meet Henin-Hardenne in Wimbledon Final

The Championships at Wimbledon

Amelie Mauresmo headed into Wimbledon as the top seed, and after outlasting Maria Sharapova in three tough sets, she secured a berth in the ladies final on Saturday.

Mauresmo held her composure and effectively nixed Maria Sharapova’s power game in today’s thrilling second semifinal at Wimbledon.

Amelie Mauresmo gained the only break of the first set at 4-all, and held to gain the early lead 6-4.

Mauresmo had three break points for a 4-1 lead in the second set, but Maria Sharapova refused to head home from Wimbledon before getting a chance at the third and deciding set. She saved the three break points and then came back from behind to take the second set 6-3. Unfortunately for Sharapova, she could not hold her momentum in the third set and Mauresmo won the match 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 to set up a clash in the final with Belgium’s Justine Henin-Hardenne.

Saturday’s final will be a rematch of the Australian Open in January, which Mauresmo won in two sets after Henin-Hardenne retired at 6-1, 2-0.
