Mary Pierce will return to tennis at the Acura Classic

Mary Pierce’s fans have been waiting for news like this for months, but now it is official. Mary Pierce, the 2-time Grand Slam champion and last year’s Roland Garros and US Open finalist, will be returning to active competition on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour later this month at the Acura Classic in San Diego, California.
The Acura’s defending champion is Pierce, who has been idled since February by an inflammation in her right foot. But Raquel Giscafre of Promotion Sports Inc., which operates the Acura, said she has been advised that Pierce intends to make the $1.34 million tournament at La Costa the occasion of her return to the tour.

Mary Pierce’s last tennis tournament was at the Open Gaz De France in Paris. I missed getting a chance to see her in action at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, and it will be great to have her competing once again on the women’s circuit.
