Serena Williams is rested and ready to “blow the joint up”

The field at the Western & Southern Financial Group Women’s Open had better look out; Serena Williams is back and ready to roll.

The AP is running an article tonight that quotes Serena discussing that her six-month break was just as much for her mental well-being, as her physical. Fortunately for her fans, the former No. 1 is ready and anxious to get back on the tennis courts.

Her trademark zeal, or as some say, over-confidence, is already pumping in her veins, and she has pretty much issued a warning to Patty Schnyder, Anastasia Myskina, and the rest of the players at next week’s tournament.

As usual, though, she intends to impress on the court.

“I hope to get a lot of satisfaction out of my game. I hope to go out and blow the joint up,” Williams said. “My goals — I’ve never said them out loud. I just expect to do what I do best, and I think I play tennis best.”

Serena’s return is excellent news for tennis, especially the struggling United States. Unfortunately, her road back to the top will not be short and easy - she’s ranked at No. 140 in the world.
