Aaress,

You also have some valid points. During Indian Wells, before we knew she was carrying the back injury, but she had it, she said she was waiting for a sign to quit. I believe she used the word epiphany. She talked about her scheduling and how she didn't want to play alot anymore. I just hope I am being paranoid about all this, looking for things that aren't there. but then again, if she suffered a concussion, and hurt herself why would she want to interviewed? concussions are bad, her mental abilty would have been limited. her memory may have been affected. that could explain the quiet-ness.
I am just so worried about her.
I do think she wants another slam, and I know she has one more in her. But she also said in the past that if she doesn't get that fourth slam, she isn't going to cry over only having three.
Reguardless, I still love her as a player and a human being. I have always looked up to her.

Jeanmarie,

You've definitely got some valid points regarding Lindsay's withdrawal, but I don't think she'll retire before the US Open, if she even retires this season. Davenport or her agent, Tony Godsick, has yet to come out and make an official statement on her retirement. If she wants another Grand Slam title as badly as I believe she does, she's not going to hang up her racquet without one more shot at a major.

you really think she would announce something? i am starting to think something is very fishy here as her agent is doing all the work, usually Lindsay's withdraws from tournaments are very personal with quotes. what i don't understand is why after she pulled out of wimbledon she refused an interview with one of espn.com writers, that's unlike her. she's hiding something, the unconfirmed injuries, she may have had a surgery at this point. or something more sinister. but pulling out a week and some days before the tournament means she had no intentions of playing. she will not return.

while the cause given for lindsay's withdrawal from one tour to another concerns her health, it is indeed very frustrating to the point of anguish. but as her loyal fan, i will continue to be hopeful, be positive and pray for her recovery from whatever 'unconfirmed' injuries she has. i don't want to speculate about her retirement for i know lindsay loves her fans too much, she will make the formal announcement when it's time.

i agree once reading the nytimes article about the unconfirmed injuries and the fact that she wasn't ready to give a date for a comeback pretty much meant that she was going to bail on stanford. the detail are very sketchy. that above all is concerning more than anything. we know she suffered the fall, concussion and other injuries before wimbledon, and chances are she messed up her back again in the fall. would be a surprise.
