If someone had told me six months ago that Vera Zvonareva would upset Serena Williams in the semifinal of a tournament, I would have told you to take a hike.
Still, I found myself eating my words as not only Serena’s run at Cincinnati ended in straight sets, but Slovenia’s Katarina Srebotnik knocked out defending champion Patty Schnyder in three sets 4-6, 6-3,7-6(6).
Vera Zvonareva’s victory over Serena was much easier than Srebotnik’s win; Zvonareva knocked out Serena in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
Fourth seed Katarina Srebotnik will take on Vera Zvonareva in tomorrow’s final at the Western & Southern Financial Group Women’s Open.
