Lindsay Davenport withdraws from Acura Classic

I have lost track of all the withdrawal posts that I have written about Lindsay Davenport in the last four months, but it looks like I have to write at least one more. Davenport has just pulled out of next week’s Acura Classic, but she should be back in time to play at the JPMorgan Chase Open tennis tournament in August.
Lindsay Davenport, who has not played since March, has withdrawn from next week’s Acura Classic at the La Costa Resort and Spa, her agent said Thursday.
. . .
Tony Godsick, Davenport’s agent, said last week that the former No. 1 player was practicing pain-free and was looking forward to playing in Carlsbad. He said in an email Thursday that she now is aiming to return at the JPMorgan Chase Open in Carson on Aug. 7.(source: OCRegister)
I hope Lindsay is able to play in Carson, because she is running out of warm-up events before the start of the US Open. This could very well be her last chance to grab that elusive fourth Grand Slam title.

heavy emphasis on should.
so what is the reason for this one? her back, but alas it is reported that she is pain free. is it for more practice time? has she legitmitly entered LA or what? so many questions, so little answers, and I have to say I am sick of her agent pulling all the strings and that I don’t trust him. we are not given a clear reason for this withdraw. if, however she does in fact make an apperance in LA i will faint and die. that at this point would mean more than a slam. at least we may finally get some answers.

Jeanmarie, Lindsay’s not listed on the JPMorgan Chase website, but she possibly could enter at the last minute on a wildcard.

Aaress, I’m just saying what the article said, Lindsay never entered LA anyway, which is why the confusion. And that site is virtually impossible to navagate, and they don’t show the entire entry list as it is. She could wildcard, and if she does there will be a story on that, so I guess we’ll have to wait and see. But I think if we’re lucky, she’ll be in New Haven, which she has entered.

Jeanmarie,
I was agreeing with you on your statement regarding Lindsay’s “entry” into LA.
It’s great to see her entered into New Haven, but hopefully we’ll hear something in the next couple of days about her receiving a wildcard or direct entry into the JPMorgan Chase.
I really hope Lindsay does make it to either LA or New Haven - or else you have to wonder if the retirement clock is going to start ticking again.

Aaress,
Ok now I understand the misunderstanding on the LA “entry”. The entry into LA seems to be true according to the LA times. But I will wait for the official comfirmation: her name being the draw. I am already hearing the retirement clock, have been hearing it since she hurt her back in March. It’s just getting louder.
