Lindsay Davenport seeded fourth at JPMorgan Chase Open

Lindsay Davenport is officially returning to competition this week at the JPMorgan Chase Open presented by Herbalife tennis tournament and will face either Australia’s Samantha Stosur or a qualifier in her opening match.

Davenport, who is seeded at No. 4, received a first round bye and is in the same quarter of the draw as Anna-Lena Groenefeld, Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Jankovic, and Sania Mirza.

She does have a 1-0 record against Stosur, but the Australian doubles specialist, who is currently co-ranked at No. 1 with partner Lisa Raymond, could be a dangerous opponent. Stosur reached the second round at this week’s Acura Classic and is currently ranked at a singles career high of No. 39 in the world.

Her participation at this week’s event was understandably doubtful until the main draw was released, especially as The Tennis Channel mistakenly announced that she would be returning at the Pilot Pen tennis event later on this month.

The tennis channel and the fact that it took and extra 7 hours or so for the draw to be released. And I was going to have a stroke. I pray that she shows up for this. But being in the draw is definately a step forward!
I think that the tennis channel was going by her original schedule, since she entered LA late.
    Hopefully she plays now.

She’s got a tough draw, but it could have been much worse, especially with Serena floating around as a wildcard.
