Nadia Petrova defeated at the JPMorgan Chase Open

Nadia Petrova’s string of first round losses continued tonight at the JPMorgan Chase Open in Carson, California. The No. 2 seed was knocked out of the tournament in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 by doubles specialist Virginia Ruano Pascual.
I am not sure what has happened to Petrova, but her tennis has been in a slump since she was dumped out of Roland Garros in the first round by Akiko Morigami. She withdrew from Wimbledon with a groin injury in June and lost her first match back last week at the Acura Classic to Anna Chakvetadze in three sets.
Petrova is next expected to play at the Rogers Cup event in Montreal, Canada.
