Justine Henin-Hardenne withdraws from Rogers Cup in Montreal

World No. 3 Justine Henin-Hardenne has pulled out of the Rogers Cup tennis tournament in Montreal because her right knee has not yet healed completely.
Henin-Hardenne’s withdrawal comes right on the heels of Amelie Mauresmo and Venus Williams, leaving a depleted field of Kim Clijsters, Maria Sharapova, and currently slumping Nadia Petrova at next week’s event.
You can read Justine’s official announcement on the French version of her website, and I will post the English translation as soon as it is available.
Henin-Hardenne won the US Open in 2003, and if she does not play at Pilot Pen or Forest Hills later this month, she will head into this year’s championships without any matches on hardcourts. She is not listed on the entry list for New Haven, but tournament director Ann Worcester has not yet announced all of the wildcard recipients.
