Report: Monica Seles May Retire from Tennis Soon

Reportedly nine-time singles Grand Slam tennis champion Monica Seles is going to make a decision very soon on whether or not she is finally going to hang up her racquet for good.

Seles, who has not played on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour since Roland Garros in 2003, recently gave an interview to Bill Simons of Inside Tennis and admitted that her foot injury has not recovered yet to the point that she can return to professional tennis.

She has stopped just short of actually saying that she is going to retire, but has hinted that a permanent decision could be forthcoming.

WS: Are you going to be playing again? Are you retiring?
MS: I am, in the next few weeks or a month, going to decide one way or the other. But it doesn’t look too good.

Fans have known for the past several months that Seles’ retirement could be imminent, but that does not make it any less saddening. She will be missed by fans not only in the United States, but throughout the tennis world.
