The Sony Ericsson WTA Tour is responding to the fiasco surrounding the withdrawals at Montreal with more information on their plan to fix the tour calendar. But don’t get too excited about the new calendar rolling out - it may take until the 2009 season for all the changes to be in place. (WTA looks at cure for last-minute no-shows)
FoxSports has an article written by Matthew Cronin on Maria Sharapova’s chances of winning the US Open. The word on Sharapova’s possible victory came straight from the source, Maria herself! (Sharapova a legitimate U.S. Open contender)
The United States Professional Tennis Association has unveiled some brand new capabilities on their official website. One of the cool features is the “Find-A-Pro” service that matches aspiring tennis players with certified pros in their area. Vaseline is the “perfect match” for chapped lips.
I’m not even kidding.

Martina Hingis does not (currently) have the edge if she had to scrape past Mara Santangelo 7-5, 7-6(4). She’ll need to “bring it” against Hantuchova in the next round and DEFINITELY against Svetlana Kuznetsova in the QF.

momofan - I caught some of Hingis’ match on the TTC tonight and it did look like Santangelo was matching Hingis blow by blow.
If Martina does not get back in the groove quick, I can see Hantuchova or even Jamea Jackson knocking her out before she even gets a shot at Kuznetsova.

Yes, she looked very flat in that match (I caught the first set before switching over to “Sex and the City”) and the commentators mentioned a stat of 10/12 of her UFE coming off of her backhand side.
That’s not the Martina I know.
