Kim Clijsters withdraws from the US Open and Fed Cup

Defending champion Kim Clijsters is out of the US Open and Belgium’s upcoming Fed Cup final against Italy.

According to her official website, world No. 2 Kim Clijsters was forced to withdraw because of extensive damage in her left wrist. Clijsters injured her wrist yesterday during her opening match at the Rogers Cup in Montreal.

Unfortunately, the English translation of her press release has not been posted, however the French version is available here.

To the best of my translation, it has been confirmed that Kim suffered severe damage to her left wrist, and has pulled out of the US Open and Fed Cup. Her doctors are estimating that it may be several weeks before she is cleared to return to tennis. She will be spending some time in New Jersey before heading back to Belgium for further medical treatment.

Momofan has been a great help over the past couple of days and she left the news of Kim’s withdrawal in the comments section this afternoon.
