New Series: All Roads Lead to the US Open

The US Open

One of the best traditions that has been handed down from days gone bye is the charming and adventure-filled American road trip. Images of my dad packing the car with piles of luggage that somehow always seemed to be larger than our trunk fill my childhood memories. Although the destination mattered a little, I mostly cared about how long it was going to take to get there, if the hotel had cable, and where was the nearest McDonald’s.

If you have watched or followed any tennis over the past two months, you have probably heard about the US Open Series. The US Open Series has been touted as the “greatest road trip in sports”, but just as I learned when I was a kid, the journey is only part of the fun; the real fun begins once you reach your final destination. After making nine stops around the United States and Canada, the last stop on the US Open Series map is just days away. On August 28, the tennis world will unite at one location for the biggest, the most dramatic, and the most eclectic of all tennis tournaments, the US Open.

I will be packing my bags in just a few days to head to New York City, but before I leave, we will be running a new series at On The Baseline. Just like the pre-coverage we published before Roland Garros and Wimbledon, we will offer some handy tips on following the latest news and results, the favorites to win the title, a guest post from Noelle at Game, Ms. Noelle, a look at what the players are really bringing to the US Open, and much more. Of course this is just barely scratching the surface, as we will be covering the US Open from the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows. The USTA was gracious enough to provide media accreditation for our staff and we are looking forward to bringing you coverage of the 2006 season’s final Grand Slam tournament . Thank you for your support of On the Baseline and be sure to come back on Monday for the start of the All Roads Lead to the US Open series. `
