Ana Ivanovic stuns Hingis in Rogers Cup Final

Ana Ivanovic played one of the best matches of her career today at the Rogers Cup when she defeated former world No. 1 Martina Hingis in straights sets 6-2, 6-3.

Ivanovic, who is just eighteen years of age, mastered the Swiss Miss early on in the match, and did not even surrender one break point to Hingis.

Today’s final was originally scheduled for Sunday, but rain in Montreal delayed the match until this afternoon. Seventh-seed Martina Hingis was the favorite to win the title, but the young Serb completely outplayed her in her first Tier I final. She needed just one championship point to claim the title, and shrieked for joy when Hingis ended the match with a shot sprayed wide.

Regardless of her loss, Martina Hingis is projected to reach No. 9 in the world when the new rankings are finally released later today.
