NEW YORK — The USTA has just announced that the Saturday day session has been canceled and refunds will be given to ticket-holders.
Although the session has been canceled, they are still trying to play at least four matches today, with priority being given to the players that are a round behind. In addition to a couple of ATP matches, Lindsay Davenport’s third round match against Katerina Srebotnik has been given a top priority designation, as well as the remainder of Patty Schnyder’s match against Marion Bartoli.
Maria Sharapova very nearly had a chance to start her match this afternoon on Arthur Ashe, but every time they finished drying the courts, the rain started again. The updated schedule tentatively plans for Lindsay’s match to begin at 4:30PM in Louis Armstrong Stadium, followed by Amelie Mauresmo.
