The Amelie v Maria semi should be closer than their Wimbledon match as the hards courts of the US Open are more suited to Sharapova’s game and I think Amelie will find it much more difficult to mix it up compared to the grass… and that is after all how Amelie has beaten Maria in their past meetings! In the end I believe, Amelie will pull through in three very tight sets.

The Jelena v Justine match is an interesting one, purely based on the outstanding players Jankovic has beaten on her way to her first Slam semi. If you had told me two weeks ago that Jankovic would beat Vaidisova, Kuznetsova AND Dementieva at the US Open, I probably would have laughed in your face! But she really has played fantastic and I think she will give Justine some trouble, especially off her backhand side. I’ll give Justine the edge… With one-set a piece, Justine will lift here game and crush Jelena in the third set, sending her into yet another Grand Slam final!
