World No. 2 Justine Henin-Hardenne will be out of action for at least three weeks because of an injury in her right knee.

On Monday she went to medical examinations, and a tear to posterior part of the right leg was revealed. Justine will be unable to participate in Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Germany from October 2. The Belgian has been told to take three weeks of complete rest to heal this injury, if things go well, she will gradually begin training again.

Justine Henin-Hardenne’s injuries this season have hardly come at the best of times, and her withdrawal yesterday from Fed Cup only served to bring up old wounds from the Australian Open final. Her reputation as a fighter has taken a huge blow this season, but this latest retirement can hardly be declared as illegitimate. Henin-Hardenne played thirteen matches over the past few weeks at New Haven and Flushing Meadows, and then with only a week’s rest, she did singles duty at Fed Cup, and then joined Kirsten Flipkens in the deciding doubles match.

Her website also says that she is not sure if she will be recovered in time for the Zurich Open in Switzerland, but she does hope to play the season-ending championships in Madrid.
