Lindsay Davenport has yet to say if she will compete in the 2007 Australian Open, but she has reportedly made time to compete in the Watsons Water Champions Challenge in Hong Kong at the start of next season.
The Hong Kong Tennis Patrons’ Association (TPA), organizer of the Watsons Water Champions Challenge 2007 announces that Hong Kong ’s premier tournament will once again attract a line-up of the biggest names in world tennis.
…
Completing the all-star line-up is the former World No.1 Lindsay Davenport. A Wimbledon and US Open Champion, Lindsay remains one of the foremost players in tennis today.
I would not try to read too deep into this announcement as this is not an official confirmation that Lindsay will play a full season in 2007. However, you do have to wonder if Lindsay would fly half-way around the world just for a four day event if she had no plans of competing in the Australian Open and was not looking for a chance to warm-up for the tournament.
Other contenders in the exhibition in Hong Kong are scheduled to include Maria Sharapova, Kim Clijsters, Svetlana Kuznetsova, and Elena Dementieva. The event will run from January 3-6, 2007.
