Watsons WaterThe event is still over a month away, but the Watsons Water Champions Challenge has announced the singles and doubles draw for the tournament.

Hong Kong’s Watsons Water Champions Challenge is one of the largest and prestigious exhibition tournaments in women’s tennis.

Hailed as a major warm-up to the Australian Open for many of the top ladies on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, the WWCC has attracted a stellar field for January’s event.

Four Grand Slam winners – Lindsay Davenport, Kim Clijsters, Maria Sharapova, and Svetlana Kuznetsova – have committed to play, in addition to China’s Yan Zi and Zheng Jie, Elena Dementieva, and Nicole Vaidisova.

Opening Round (Quarterfinals) Singles Matches
Maria Sharapova vs. Yan Zi
Svetlana Kuznetsova vs. Lindsay Davenport
Kim Clijsters vs. Zheng Jie
Elena Dementieva vs. Nicole Vaidisova

Opening Round (Semifinals) Doubles Matches
Zheng Jie/Yan Zi vs. Elena Dementieva/Nicole Vaidisova
Svetlana Kuznetsova/Kim Clijsters vs. Maria Sharapova/Lindsay Davenport

The singles tournament is composed of best-of-three tiebreak sets. The winners of the four singles quarterfinal matches move into the semifinals of the Gold group, the losers into the Silver group. Two champions will be crowned, a Gold Group and a Silver Group winner.

    Doubles would be a whole lot more popular if you had these eight playing at events!

    I would LOVE to see the second match between Kim/Svetlana and Maria/Lindsay. This could be one of the best displays of power vs. agility on court.
