You would think that Serena Williams had enough on her plate with a multiple-city exhibition tour, a breach of contract lawsuit, and final preparations before her 2007 tennis season begins in just a few weeks, but now the former world number one has found herself in trouble with her local law enforcement.
According to the AP, Serena’s pet pitbull, Bambi, was loose on Friday night and bit a security guard in Williams’ subdivision on the rear end. Following normal procedures, the police responded to the incident and notified Serena of the problem.
Unfortunately, that was when the real trouble started.
Williams told police she didn’t own the dog, but said she was watching Bambi for a friend, a Palm Beach Gardens Police incident report said.(source: Gainesville.com)
Refusing to claim your own dog when it digs up your neighbor’s tulips is one thing; telling the police that story is a whole different matter.
According to the Palm Beach Post, it just took a contact at the Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control Center to confirm that Bambi was not a friend’s dog, but Serena’s pet pooch.
You can even view pictures of Bambi on Serena’s official website here.
I guess it is not surprising that neither Serena, the police, or the animal control authorities are talking further to the media at this point.
