Maybe It’s Not a Dog’s Life After All . . .

Hollywood Puppy
Although most of the media attention was on their human counterparts this season, a few tennis stars’ pets made the limelight.

Two of them - Bambi and Diesel - caused their owners a bit of trouble, but Lindsay Davenport’s Rottweiler Scout found her just after she fainted earlier this year.

Scout - A Tennis Player’s Best Friend
Lindsay Davenport has been an avid Rottweiler owner for years, and it was Scout, one of her two male Rotts that found her passed out on the floor this spring. Perhaps it was fitting that Scout was looking down on her with a tennis ball in his mouth - reminding her that she still had some unfinished business on the tennis courts.

Diesel - The WTA Tour’s Best Defensive Soccer Player
Kim Clijsters may be known for her agility on the tennis court, but you can’t exactly say the same for her recent prowess on the football (soccer) field. While playing football this summer with her fiancee’ Brian and his father, Kim was halted in her tracks by a formidable opponent - her Great Dane. We can assume that Diesel escaped unscathed, but his affable owner wound up with a bruised tailbone.

Bambi - His Bite Is Just as Bad as His Bark
Serena Williams has been known to call Bambi her “son”, but there was one unhappy momma in Florida after Bambi tried to take a bite out of a security guard last week. Serena did not make matters any better by causing a maternity suit to be started against her poor child. Blood or in this case, dog licenses proved that Serena was indeed the pit bull’s mother, but not before Bambi started to became almost as big a celebrity as his owner. This is sad. There is not much to write about when you write stuff about tennis player’s dogs but have to say in Kim’s case it was a tiny bit funny.
