Zina Garrison, the 1990 runner-up in the Wimbledon Ladies Final, has been selected by the United States Tennis Association to helm the USA’s Fed Cup squad next season.
This will be Garrison’s fourth year as captain of the team, with two runs to the semifinal already on her resume.
“It is a great honor for me to continue as captain of the U.S. Fed Cup team,†said Garrison in an interview with the USTA. “I am committed to working with our country’s top players to field the best team possible and with one singular purpose — winning the Fed Cup in 2006.â€
The United States will be hosting to Belgium in their first tie of 2007.
Garrison has started rounding up prospective team members, and has already contacted Venus Williams, who said that she would look forward to competing on the team as long as she stays healthy.
