The Watsons Water Champions Challenge, one of the most exclusive exhibitions featuring the women of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, will begin tomorrow in Hong Kong.
Showcasing a star-studded field that includes Maria Sharapova, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Kim Clijsters, Elena Dementieva, Patty Schnyder, and Nicole Vaidisova - six members of the top ten women in the world - the Watsons Water Champions Challenge has a unique format with all of the women participating in not only singles, but also doubles.
If you are a doubles fan, this may be your only chance to see stars like Sharapova and Schnyder team up for a doubles competition against Clijsters and Kuznetsova, or China’s stellar pairing of Yan Zi and Zheng Jie against Vaidisova and Dementieva.
Zheng Jie and Yan Zi are also participating in the singles event, which begins in a traditional quarterfinal format, but the four winners will take their place in the gold group to contest the championship title, followed by the four losers contending for the silver group championship.
The exhibition kicks off tomorrow at 6:00pm (Hong Kong) with an opening ceremony, followed by Kim Clijsters vs. Zheng Jie, Zheng Jie/Yan Zi vs. Elena Dementieva/Nicole Vaidisova (after a suitable rest), and Svetlana Kuznetsova vs. Patty Schnyder.
Even though most of us are on the opposite side of the globe as Hong Kong, the tournament has provided a variety of options to help keep fans worldwide updated with all the action. Not only will live scoring and analysis be available on the official website, but also a live webcam is expected to air visual footage of the tournament in addition to video highlights.
