Nadia Petrova and Dmitry Tursunov had a difficult start, but the past was forgotten when they hoisted the trophy today at the Hopman Cup tournament in Perth, Australia.

Even though Russia has competed at the Hopman Cup for six years, this was their first victory.

Petrova kicked off the team’s start at the event with a devastating loss to Alicia Molik in their first singles rubber. Fortunately for Nadia, this was just a momentary setback and after recovering her serve, she helped her partner Tursunov to reach the final round against Spain.

In today’s first two matches against Spain, both players scored straight sets wins, making the final mixed doubles match a dead rubber. Petrova defeated Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-0, 6-4 and Tursunov sealed the victory with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Tommy Robredo.
