Venus Williams to Play at Proximus Diamond Games

Venus Williams may be MIA at the 2007 Australian Open, but she is not planning on resting much longer.
According to little sister Serena, Venus is still kicking her around the practice court, and wants to be back on the Tour.
“She’s really playing like she’s playing with no fear and she’s practicing really hard,” said Serena from Melbourne. “She’s playing unbelievable.”
The field at the Proximus Diamond Games is also shaping up to be unbelievable.
According to Antwerp’s website, Venus Williams has been given a wild card into the tournament, which begins on February 10.
Retiring Belgian star Kim Clijsters has expressed a desire to play not only singles, but doubles, and the latest announcement that Venus intends to compete has only helped boost the Tier II field.
Defending champion Amelie Mauresmo is also planning on participating in the event and is just one title away from bringing home the diamond racquet.

That is such great news! I hope she recovers and makes it there coz she has a great record. she should have won the diamond racket in ‘05 but maybe she’ll win it in 2009!

Kim wanted to play the double with Ame but ame unfortunatly refused…I think this undersatndabl…she will be playing Paris and then antrewp…I guess she doesn’t want to spoil her chances of winning the Diamond raquette

If I’m not mistaken, I believe the only way you can win the diamond racquet is to win the tournament three times in less than five years. Venus won in 2002 and 2003, but because she skipped last year, she’s pretty much blown her chances - at least for the next three years.
Amelie has a real shot at taking it home, because she’s won the tournament for the past two years running.
